If you are coming to the end of your current fixed term your landlord should get in touch with you in relation to your future plans. Ideally this should be about 2 or so months before your fixed term ends.
If you do intend to move out of the property and end your tenancy then follow the guidance we have supplied here which will help you with this process. If you intend to remain in the property then we are here to help.
Once you and your landlord have agreed for the tenancy to continue, including agreeing on any adjustments you and the landlord will have two options:
- to agree to another fixed term
- to all the tenancy to roll on a contractually periodic "rolling" tenancy
This needs to be mutual between you and the landlord.
If you agree to a new fixed term your landlord will be able to create a renewal tenancy through our platform and keep all the data from the original tenancy. You will be notified that you need to sign this. Make sure you do this in plenty of time.
If you agree to continue your tenancy on a periodic basis you will not need to sign any agreement and will be subject to the same terms and conditions as your original tenancy agreement. Once in the periodic contract if you intend to leave and end the tenancy you will only have to give one months notice in writing to the landlord. This notice should always be in line with rent due dates.
